Created in 1992, the Georges Momboye dance company is leading
an international career with its fifty or so artists.
For the choreographer Georges Momboye, dancing is above all perpetually
evolving movement, inspired by a number of influences and not
least his culture and experiences, from Alvin Ailey to Martha Graham,
the people he has met, including artists from very diverse backgrounds,
from African to contemporary companies, classical dance, or even hip
hop, all of which play a part in his creations.
Georges Momboye’s choreographies look at differences and
distinction, translating great open-mindedness and respect for cultures
and what makes them strong and unique.
Whilst developing African dance using contemporary movements and
gestures, Georges Momboye brilliantly uses music as light, the latter
being an integral part of his work. The space is occupied
with precision and skill.
This language is accessible to everyone, placing his projects at the
heart of contemporary creation.
A repertoire of 13 award-winning creations and projects,
scheduled to take place in prestigious venues.
Amongst all of his creations (the first was a commission from UNESCO),
some were given awards and schedules to take place at renowned events
such as the International Biennial Dance Event in Lyon, the Biennale
Nationale de Danse du Val de Marne [Biennial dance event in the Val de
Marne region], the Festival de Vaison la Romaine, the Festival de
Biarritz, the Festival de Perpignan, the Festival de Sisteron or abroad
at the International Theatre Festival in Venezuela, the
Sadler’s Theatre in London, le Teatro a Mil festival (in
Santiago, Chilli), the Bregenz Festival (Austria) or yet again the
Santander Festival in Spain, the Rovereto festival in Italy

Since its creation, the Georges Momboye company has reached out to its audiences through its work. An ever greater and loyal crowd, they are aware of the choreographer’s world thanks to interventions surrounding his creations or performances, in the shape of artistic workshops and courses, in partnership with theatres, cultural associations, music and dance schools, or primary and secondary schools.
“This project has enabled certain students
to come out of their shell. It’s time for others to
distinguish themselves, to be valued outside of a strictly academic
environment. This project has helped to forge links between
students and teachers, as well as amongst the students
themselves. They intermingle and learn to know each other;
some have even changed their attitude.” Le Journal
de Villejuif.
The Georges Momboye company is subsidised by the Conseil
Général du Val de Marne, which offers its support
in creative and operative matters.
